This qualification reflects the trade qualified role of a brick- layer, blocklayer or paver who may have responsibility for undertaking heritage bricklaying, refractory bricklaying, bricklaying, blocklaying and paving work in residential, in- dustrial and commercial contexts, in both existing and new constructions.

The bricklaying, blocklaying and paving industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered and assessed in this context.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification require- ments vary between states. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic computer skills
  • English Proficiency level for the training course reading, writing and comprehension skills
  • IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
  • Minimum 18 years of age

COURSE DELIVERY

The qualification offers a maximum period of 104 weeks (including 8 weeks holiday) from the date of commencement in which to complete their studies and submit all work for assessment. Students will attend face-to-face 2 x days per week 9 am-5 pm. This includes training and assessment. In addition, students are required to complete up to a maximum of 5 hours per week independent, unsupervised activities.

RPL CANDIDATE

Candidates must provide evidence of currency and experience by working in the bricklaying/ block laying field of construction for a minimum of 12 months within the past 18 months. A letter on company letterhead from current/past employer(s) verifying this is required.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) means an assessment process that assesses the competency(s) of an individual that they may have been acquired through formal, non-formal and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual meets the requirements specified in the training package.
